Summer draws to a close (we think). Winners announced!

Here are some of the great entries to our summer contest by Eric Anderson and Doug Poole. I think you can see why it is hard for us to choose our winners each time. But as we bid farewell to a summer season that seems to still change it's mind regularly (at least here in Austin Texas- going from Ugg boots to flip flop weather in a day), we present you with more fabulous art to enjoy. Well, you can't deny the awesomeness of this piece! The beautiful shades of blue and great illustration ability shown in this piece won us over. There is a great submerged feeling conveyed in this sign. We love it and it is our grand prize winner!

Ah, with a break from the 60 straight days of over 100 degree days we have had here in Austin, one starts fantasizing about cool autumn nights. With a string of holidays up ahead, I want to challenge myself and those of you reading this to do things extra creatively this year. How original can you be? Can you craft something new and different? Admittedly we've discovered how much less mess Halloween can have by using Chalk Ink® markers on our pumpkins instead carving. So I challenge you! Grab your pens, grab some gourds, listen to your muses and send in art for me to post!

the Fruit Salad!

Well, I have been bragging around the office today about the fruit salad that I made for Easter brunch with friends. Mostly I think I am amazed because I managed to finish it in time for our event- after getting back into town at 1 pm the night before. So here it is, garnished with a sprig of mint on top for a little creative oomphf! (I also tossed chopped mint in the salad with balsamic vinegar and just a spoonful of sugar). It was also served with a bowl of organic vanilla yogurt to 'dallop' on top and chopped candied pecans & cranberries as well. There you go!

Also, this is my good friend Kim, she works at the Jackson Ruiz Salon in Austin, near Whole Foods. One of the best hair colorists around....

Our lovely first place winner is Tegan Bellitta who has worked as the store artist for Whole Foods Market in North Wales, PA since 2006. She graduated from Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia in 2003 with a degree in Illustration. She has also been an part time Adjunct Professor since graduation at Moore as well as the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in Lancaster, PA, in the Illustration departments. She also has done children’s book illustration, website design, and had inclusions in the publication Aphrodisia: Art of the Female Form, by Aristata Publishing, in 2004 & 2005. I enjoy children’s, pet and pinup portraits.

We are big fans of Tegan at Chalk Ink and I'm sure all of you can see why!

Our lovely friend Bev's daughter Casey was married recently to Ross. The Palmer's had a lovely wedding attended by many friends and loved ones. Congratulations to all~! Ah, esteemed Store Designer for Whole Foods Market, Bev Leader took care of the Bishops Corner remodel, down to the handwriting the aisle signs with a Chalk Ink~! Leave it to super Bev to handle Wedding Planning and execution and then turn around and complete a store remodel! That's gold medal worthy!

Oh we love Bubba Gumps!

Here is a sweet piece from Tracy at the Long Beach location. Oh why do they not have these in Texas! I will tell you, that when we are in Florida we LOVE 1) The Shrimper's Net Catch steamed in beer with ' aromatic Bubba's garlic spice' AND the 'secret Cajun recipe". We LOVE this and lick the last bits of sauce and seasoning with our fingers. If you have a Gumps you must go! Oh, and please admire their chalk signs too! "My Jen-ny!!".
